This Friday, March 6th, Paris Saint-Germain (1st) faces Monaco (7th) at the Parc des Princes (kick-off at 8:45 PM, CET) for Matchday 25 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. And as before every match, here’s a look at PSG’s opponent.

Monaco’s situation –

For a while in the 2010s, Monaco’s project seemed to mirror PSG’s, but then the focus shifted to selling players for profit rather than building the best possible team. This led to numerous changes each year and some challenging periods.

There was hope for stability with the arrival of coach Adi Hütter in July 2023 and a well-planned transfer window, but the crisis returned at the end of summer 2025 with disappointing results considering the club’s objectives. The German was replaced in October by Sébastien Pocognoli (who distinguished himself at Union Saint-Gilloise).

The Belgian initially brought some interesting elements, but inconsistency persists, and there still seems to be a lot of work to be done. Monaco is currently 7th in Ligue 1 and was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France by Strasbourg, then by PSG in the Champions League playoffs. However, it’s a relatively good period in terms of league results.

Key Statistics –

This season, Monaco has one of the 4 best attacks in Ligue 1 with 40 goals scored (the best, PSG, has 53, and the worst, Auxerre, has 19), and the 13th best defense with 36 goals conceded (PSG has the best defense with 19 goals conceded, and the worst, Metz, has 53).

Monaco’s top scorer is Ansu Fati (23-year-old winger), with 8 goals, placing him 12th in the league (Mason Greenwood is first with 14 goals). Aleksandr Golovin (29-year-old attacking midfielder) is Monaco’s top assist provider with 4 assists and is 15th in Ligue 1 (Adrien Thomasson is first with 7 assists).

Monaco’s playing style.

As with Union Saint-Gilloise, Pocognoli is trying to implement an attacking style of play. This also suits the squad, except for some adaptation difficulties and physical setbacks. Ultimately, we have a team that has distinguished itself rather defensively during the league phase. But they are also capable of major errors, with a lack of emotional control that sometimes leads to red cards, as we saw again during the playoffs against PSG.

Monaco mainly caused PSG problems with their aggressive pressing and quick transitions. The Parisians will therefore need to be very focused throughout the entire match this time to avoid the difficulties they experienced during the playoff. Efficiency would be beneficial; there will undoubtedly be chances, whereas PSG had many opportunities against Monaco.
