Luis Enrique, Paris Saint-Germain coach, spoke to TNT Sports after PSG’s 5-2 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League Round of 16 tie (second leg on March 17).
Luis Enrique: “It’s magnificent to play here.”
An excellent evening, did the players rise to the occasion?
I’m very happy, not just with the result but also with our resilience. We conceded an equalizer twice, but we kept pushing to get a good result. We took a three-goal lead and we’re very happy with the outcome.
Does this victory show a champion’s mentality?
We are the European champions, it’s fantastic and it sounds great. But the atmosphere in the stadium is special; they have faith in us. It’s magnificent to play here. We’re showing our mentality and our energy.
Luis Enrique: “We’re a very difficult team for the opposition.”
A PSG that reminds us of last season’s team, even though you’ve been inconsistent this year?
Everyone wants to compare it to last season. Last season was magnificent, and we have to accept that each year is different. We want to perform at the same level, but it’s very difficult. I think we’re a very difficult team for the opposition.
You can see that we’re not as precise as usual, but we fight, we run, we try to attack. It’s positive for our fans to see; we want to play our way.
Luis Enrique: “That’s our philosophy. We mustn’t think it’s over.”
Top-level finishing?
Yes, it was beautiful! We didn’t have many chances, but we scored a lot. That’s football. Now we have to play in London; we’ll prepare with the same mentality of scoring and winning. That’s our philosophy. We mustn’t think it’s over.
