Achraf Hakimi, the 27-year-old right wing-back for Paris Saint-Germain, spoke to Canal+ after PSG’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-finals (second leg on April 14).
Hakimi: “We want to play like this for the second leg.”
There were two situations that could have resulted in penalties. What did you understand from the referee’s decisions?
I haven’t seen the plays yet. They were actions on the pitch where you think it’s a penalty, but then the referee didn’t see it, and we have to respect the decisions. We’re happy with the match.
Do you need to score more tonight?
I think we had clear chances to score more goals. We didn’t score, and we left Liverpool in the game a little bit for the second leg. We’re happy with the performance and we want to play like this in the second leg.
Hakimi: “We don’t want to wait and see what Liverpool will do.”
Won’t Liverpool be able to play like this with this strategy in the second leg?
That’s not up to us. We have to continue with the same strategy and do what we’ve been doing for a long time. We don’t want to wait and see what Liverpool will do; we’re going to do what we just did throughout the match. We have to keep going like this.
