Strasbourg’s qualification for the Europa League Conference semi-finals, after overturning a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Mainz (4-0 in the second leg), is excellent news for French football. It’s also a slight disruption, as the second leg against Rayo Vallecano is scheduled for May 7th. The Professional Football League (LFP) has therefore postponed the Ligue 1 Matchday 33 multiplex, originally scheduled for May 9th, as well as the UNFP Trophies ceremony.
“Ligue 1 McDonald’s Matchday 33:
The RC Lens – FC Nantes match will be played on Friday, May 8th at 8:45 PM.
The eight other matches will be played simultaneously on Sunday, May 10th at 9:00 PM.
Ligue 1 McDonald’s Matchday 34:
The nine matches of the final matchday will be played simultaneously on Sunday, May 17th at 9:00 PM.
A logical decision, since it’s impossible to play with only one day of rest. It’s smart to adjust the schedule somewhat to accommodate European competition, even if we know it can also spark considerable controversy. This time, we’d be surprised to see a protest. The same goes for Matchday 34. Above all, let’s rejoice at having two French clubs in a European semi-final, since PSG will face Bayern Munich on April 28th and May 6th in the Champions League.
