Vitinha, the 26-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, had to leave the pitch before halftime during Sunday night’s match against Olympique Lyonnais due to pain sustained after landing awkwardly. On Monday, PSG released an official statement following the Portuguese player’s medical examinations.
“Having suffered inflammation of his right heel following a knock during the match against Olympique Lyonnais, Vitinha will remain under medical care for the next few days. A further assessment will be carried out at the end of the week.”
This is relatively positive news, as it seems to rule out a long-term absence for Vitinha. However, there is still a risk of further injury should the problem persist. We can hope that the Portuguese player will return soon, perhaps as early as this Saturday against Angers (Ligue 1 Matchday 31). But the main objective will be the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich on April 28 (the second leg is on May 6).
