Paris Saint-Germain won the most recent Champions League final against Arsenal (1-1, 4-3 on penalties). Thierry Henry—an Arsenal legend turned pundit—reflected on that final and the capital club’s progress in recent years during the draw for the 2026-2027 league phase.
Henry: “The most important thing is the club, the team, and how you play.”
“Paris Saint-Germain is a tough team to face right now. They give everyone a hard time. They’ve worked for this; they’ve endured the pain. They know what it takes to win. But maintaining a core, cohesion, and team balance is crucial. I see people talking about player names and individual talents. But for me, the most important thing is the club, the team, and how you play. Having a clear idea of how the team will play is vital. And all 11 players have to run. If you don’t, you won’t win anything,” said Henry, as reported by RMC Sport.
What enabled PSG to shine—and notably win two consecutive Champions League titles—was, quite clearly, the collective spirit that developed. Seeing players put in such defensive effort and play for one another serves as a footballing masterclass in every major European match. It has, of course, been a long, arduous journey to get here.
Luis Enrique succeeded in instilling this discipline and mindset. However, it also required parting ways with very talented players who, unfortunately, lacked the mentality to take PSG to the very top. Today, the capital club has become a European benchmark; this status is richly deserved, and it feels like only the beginning.
