This Friday at 9:05 PM (CET), Paris Saint-Germain (11th) face Monaco (1st) at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 3 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. In a press conference, Monaco coach Filipe Luis spoke about the match and their Parisian opponents. He notably praised his Parisian counterpart, Luis Enrique.
Filipe Luis: “I have the privilege of experiencing this moment.”
“We are undoubtedly going to face one of the best teams in the history of football. I am going to face, once again, the best coach in the world—or probably one of the top three in history—and I have the privilege of experiencing this moment.”
Filipe Luis: “He is a unique coach.”
Luis Enrique among the best coaches in history—really?
“Perhaps in the top five (smiles). What he brings to football—his personality, the way he speaks and carries himself, the attention he pays to the squad, and not just in his documentary… As I said, he shows others how to manage a group of players and how to lead a big club. He is a unique coach. I admire him greatly.
He won titles with Barcelona, and he has won again—for the first time—with PSG. It is very difficult to win for the first time, yet he keeps on winning. That is the hardest part,” he told L’Équipe.
The message is clear: the Brazilian coach is a huge fan of Luis Enrique and will relish the chance to face him in this exciting match. It is easy to understand why; the Spaniard is a unique figure, both in terms of tactics and communication. While one shouldn’t try to simply copy him, it is certainly possible to draw inspiration from him—particularly regarding squad management, as Filipe Luis points out.
That said, there is no room for sentimentality or complacency. The Monaco coach isn’t coming to the Parc des Princes to ask for photos or autographs. The goal is to thwart Paris’s plans and secure the three points. PSG will have to be ready to fight for their first Ligue 1 win of the season. It is up to the Parisian team to live up to the praise heaped upon them by Filipe Luis.
