Victor Osimhen, the 25-year-old striker under contract to Napoli until 2026, was rumored to be close to Paris Saint-Germain during the summer mercato, but the deal was never finalized. Instead, the Nigerian international went on loan to Galatasaray at the last minute. He is taking advantage of this to shine again, and according to journalist Daniel Riolo (RMC Sport), PSG are reworking their recruitment this winter.
“They’re having some serious discussions.
“Luis Enrique wants reinforcements. He realizes that he was wrong, and in particular on a file that he didn’t want in August and which is now evolving in Turkey, but costs less than it did this summer, so that’s Victor Osimhen.
His price is much lower than last summer. De Laurentiis was asking 220 (million euros) for Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia. Now the package is finished. Napoli still own (the player). Obviously, there could be an opening. It’s not a done deal, but they’re discussing it seriously.”
A surprising announcement, given that it is quite rare for a player on loan to leave his club in the middle of the season, only to be sold by the lender to someone else. Nevertheless, this was an option mentioned by the Turkish media at the start of the loan, with a list of possible destinations (10) including PSG. Perhaps Paris wants to take advantage of this, with a release clause now at 75 million euros (compared to 130 before).
However, we remain cautious. There’s nothing certain, and Riolo isn’t particularly well known for his information on the mercato. Particularly as RMC Sport presents the information with a contract until 2025, which is not true since it’s 2026 with a possible extension already mooted by Napoli at the time of the loan.
So let’s wait and see, but we were expecting to see some rumours as the mercato approached, particularly in attack. It’s far from over.
