Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-0 victory over Brest this Sunday at the Stade Francis Le-Blé during Matchday 4 of the 2026-2027 Ligue season. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at the press conference.
Luis Enrique: “Mr. Roy will be happy to see the love everyone has for him.”
There was a lot of emotion before the match with the tribute to Brest coach Eric Roy, who passed away last June. Is it unusual to play in such a context?
It’s very different. The lead-up to the match was beautiful; it’s rare for everyone to agree on a subject. Mr. Roy will be happy to see the love everyone has for him. It was lovely, special, and different—a unique way to start a match. Both teams showed their ability to play under these conditions.
Luis Enrique: “When you make such clear errors, it’s incredible that we finished at 1-0.”
Are you satisfied with the team’s performance in this match?
No, I was more satisfied with the first three matches—even though we didn’t win them (two draws and a loss). We made a lot of mistakes. It’s always difficult playing at Brest. They are a very tough team that can create chances quickly. We defended very well for almost the entire match, but we made a lot of errors. When you make such clear errors, it’s incredible that we finished at 1-0. This is the day I’ve been most annoyed since the start of the season.
Is Achraf Hakimi’s injury serious?
It’s an adductor issue. It is an injury, but I don’t know the severity yet. We’ll see once he undergoes medical tests.
Luis Enrique: “By the end of the season, everything balances out.”
Matches between PSG and Brest are usually spectacular. How do you explain this low-scoring game?
We made clear errors that led to goals—or rather, would have led to goals, yet we didn’t concede any. In the last three matches, we put in a lot of high-level defensive work, but our opponents scored. This was our worst match, yet we won. But you always get what you deserve. By the end of the season, things even out. We secured three vital points on a matchday where there were a lot of draws.
When you’re PSG, is it normal to have to wait until Matchday 4 to get your first win?
That’s life—what can you do? That’s football. You have to adapt. You have to fight as hard as you can; this is top-level football. We accepted the results of the first three matches, and here—on our worst day—we won. You have to accept the first three matches, but you also have to accept the fourth.

How do you rate the performance of your goalkeeper, Matveï Safonov?
For me, there’s no debate. I have three top-level goalkeepers. I’m very happy with what he’s doing, but I expect more from all the players. We are PSG; we have to realize that we need to improve. Normally, if you make these kinds of errors in a match, you don’t win.
