Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais this Sunday at the Parc des Princes, as part of the 8th matchday of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. Following the match, 20-year-old PSG player Senny Mayulu spoke to the press in the mixed zone.
Mayulu: “We are all very supportive of one another.”
Regarding Kvaratskhelia and his injury—was that a tribute celebration?
“Yes, of course. We are a team. We are all very supportive of one another. If I hadn’t been the one to score, someone else would have performed that celebration, because we are united. We are all standing behind him.”
How did it feel to score those goals in front of the supporters?
“It’s always a pleasure to score in this magnificent stadium. Being able to net the opening goal and take the lead—especially since we wanted to reclaim the top spot—is always a great feeling.”
Mayulu: “The coach tells us in training to be ready.”
Is it important for the bench to remain engaged?
“Yes, absolutely. We are all prepared; the coach tells us in training to be ready. You never know who will start, so you have to be prepared. In the end, whether you’re in the starting lineup or coming off the bench, we all give our absolute best to win the match.”
Did it feel strange not to see the team at the top of Ligue 1?
“Well, that’s football. We had a poor start and weren’t in first place, but we managed to catch up. Now that we’re back on top, it gives us the momentum to pull away from the rest.”
You’ve also had a bit of an up-and-down start to the season—will this match be a boost for you?
“That’s football; these things happen in any career. Every athlete goes through phases like this.” So, I’m happy to have helped the team with that goal.
Mayulu: “He told me to keep my feet on the ground.”
How did you handle your injury?
I gave it my all with the medical team. I took my time so I wouldn’t rush and come back too soon. Everyone gave me confidence and told me not to rush. Thank God, I’ve returned in good form.
A word on Mika Godts (an assist for you, a goal, and a goal-line clearance)?
I’m happy. We have a good connection. Honestly, we’re all like a family. I’m glad he provided the assist; I’m happy for him and for the whole team.
You were named the best team from last year.
We’re all happy. It’s a source of pride for us and for the entire club.
Many PSG players have been nominated for the Ballon d’Or. Does that make you aspire to it, and what do you think you’re missing?
Well, for now, I’m still young (laughs). But I’m happy for the players, and I hope a PSG player ends up winning it.
You were going through a rougher patch. What did the coach say to you during that period?
Yes, I spoke with the coach, as I always do. He told me to keep my feet on the ground—to keep working away from the spotlight, so to speak—and then he gave me my chance. In truth, these are things you have to work on every single day. You always have to stay serious. I’m happy.
