Paris Saint-Germain hosted Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday to close out the 15th day of Ligue 1. After the 3-1, the capital club’s coach Luis Enrique spoke to PSG TV about his players’ performance. He also spoke about the last two games of 2024, on Wednesday against Monaco (Ligue 1) and Sunday at Lens (Coupe de France).
Enrique: “We played against a confident opponent”.
“It was a fantastic weekend. Of the top nine teams, only Paris Saint-Germain won. So that’s important. We’ve regained a seven-point lead over Monaco and Marseille.
Today, we played against an opponent in full confidence, who hadn’t lost in ten games, and I think we were at a very good level. When you play against players of this level, it’s important to make few mistakes and, overall, we’re satisfied.”
Enrique “We can’t wait to finish 2024 on a high note”
“I can’t wait to play at the Parc des Princes again! Now we have the Monaco match and the Coupe de France match. We can’t wait to finish this year 2024 well by trying to win these two matches.”
A fine battle won by PSG, who had just come off a fine Champions League win over RB Salzburg. The Parisians once again showed themselves to be realistic, which enabled them to quickly take control of the match. In this kind of encounter, it’s important not to find yourself behind in the scoreline, given the ability of these teams to regroup and operate only on the counter-attack.
By scoring two early goals, PSG made their task easier. But they also kept up the intensity throughout the match to maintain their lead and win.
A reassuring performance against a team in great form. The Parisians seem to be on the rise as the year draws to a close, and we’ll need to confirm this trend in our next matches in 2024 and early 2025.
