Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is not an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with Paris Saint-Germain’s match this Wednesday against Monaco (3rd) at the Stade Louis II in the advanced round of matchday 16 of Ligue 1 2024-2025 (kick-off 9pm, Monaco/PSG broadcast on beIN SPORTS in France).
5 – Ligue 1 summit clash
The match between AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain is a crucial clash on Matchday 16 of Ligue 1. PSG, currently seven points clear at the top, can extend their lead over Monaco, who are fighting to stay in the title race.
Indeed, for Monaco, who are going through a difficult period, this match will be important if they are not to go home 10 points behind and with a largely negative goal-average compared with Paris.
4 – A spectacular match
Both teams are known for their attacking play. Expect an exciting match, with both sides looking to score and dominate the game. With the exception of last March, when there were no goals between the two teams (plus at Louis II), all recent matches have been spectacular. You have to go back to March 1, 2015 to find a match without a goal between the two teams. That’s 9 years between that match in March 2024 and the one in 2015.
Since then, there have been 25 matches between the two, with 15 Paris victories, 5 draws and 5 Monaco wins. In terms of goals, over these 25 matches, Paris has scored 61 times compared with 29 for Monaco. This gives an average of 3.6 goals per match over the last 10 years. With PSG at 2.44 goals per game and Monaco at just over 1, it’s sure to be a spectacle.
3 – A crazy atmosphere at Louis II thanks to the Parisian fans?
Louis II is by no means renowned for being a soccer stadium where fervor dominates. Indeed, Monaco have often been better away from home. That said, the Parisian fans will be out in force, and they make a lot of noise, even away from home. We should therefore see the visitors’ fans pushing hard for this important victory.
2 – Last Ligue 1 match in 2024 for Paris
Already the last match of the year in Ligue 1. In fact, it was due to be played on another date, but has now been brought forward. It’s going to be an interesting game, and we’re going to have to enjoy it before a well-deserved break for the fans. As we all know, there’s a lot of time between games at these times of the year, so we’ll have to make the most of it.
1 – A great crowd on the lawn
This match will be an opportunity to see some of PSG’s players in fine form at the moment. They will need to confirm their form. Dembélé, Ramos, Doué, Vitinha et al will be keen to kick off the second half of the season with a perfect match. Away from home, it won’t be easy, even if Paris is unbeaten on French soil since April 2023.
We’ll also want to see how Bradley Barcola reacts, who’s struggling at the moment. On the other side, some serious PSG prospects will be there, including Maghnes Akliouche. We can’t wait to see all the action in one of Ligue 1’s most mouth-watering clashes.
