This Saturday, January 10th, the French press (focusing on the sporting aspects) concentrated on Paris Saint-Germain and the methods of Borja Alvarez, Luis Enrique’s trusted goalkeeping coach. The choice of training camp for the French national team for the 2026 World Cup was also discussed.

Borja Alvarez stands out from the French approach with a less “cliquey” approach to goalkeepers, despite his close relationship with coach Luis Enrique. Above all, his training sessions are based on a thorough analysis of the opponent. He takes into account the opponent’s habits (depth, crosses, shooting style, etc.) in order to practice these situations as much as possible, with the aim of developing a goalkeeper ready to make the right decisions.
This approach is apparently surprising, particularly in France, and requires a period of adjustment. But the results speak for themselves. Particularly during penalty shootouts, with an impressive 5/5 record thanks to saves from all three goalkeepers (and not shots that always went wide).
As for the French team’s choice, it at least provides some clarity and allows them to look ahead a bit to the World Cup. Even though there’s still a long way to go, with many great moments to experience before reaching that competition. We hope Boston will bring good luck to the French team.
