Olga Carmona, a 25-year-old left-back from Spain, signed for Paris Saint-Germain this summer from Real Madrid after five seasons. A major signing for PSG and a significant change for the Spanish international. She spoke about this new phase with the newspaper Le Parisien.
Carmona: “I felt it was time for a change.”
“How are you feeling in Paris?”
“I’m delighted! I feel very confident. It’s a new team, and I’m gradually starting to understand my teammates better. I’m adapting to the system, to our way of playing, which is a little different from what I knew in Spain, but I’m very happy. (…) I was also very happy at Real Madrid, but it had been five years, and I felt it was time for a change.”
Carmona: “We had a few days to reflect, to do some self-criticism.”
How would you describe the team today?
We didn’t get very good results, especially in the last match, but we had a few days to reflect, to self-criticize, and above all, to correct our mistakes. We were able to change our mentality to move forward and prepare well for the match against Real Madrid. We have a new, very important opportunity.
A dream for this year?
Win a title! And if I can do that with Paris Saint-Germain, I would be very happy. Repaying the club for the trust it placed in me is very important to me.
Of course, changing clubs is not easy. Even more so in another country, with a different language and culture. It takes time, and nothing is set in stone. There are many parameters. For some transfers, everything goes very well. For others, it takes a little longer. Of course, the team environment plays a role.
Joining PSG this summer isn’t the easiest thing, with a renewed project, a team to rebuild, and confidence to reinstate. It’s a far cry from what Carmona experienced at Real Madrid. But that’s also the appeal of a new challenge. The Spaniard’s experience and skills should help PSG a lot.
We hope that will be evident tonight against Real, a very good team against whom a positive result would do the world of good. At the very least, we’ll need a good team performance, which confirms the shift the full-back has suggested.
