Bradley Barcola, 22-year-old winger for Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team, spoke to Le Parisienin a lengthy interview . He talked about his difficulties in the Champions League, a competition that is far more difficult. He wants to remain confident, however, and is confident that he can turn the corner.
Barcola “ It’s harder to find me on the pitch, I have fewer balls to make a difference”.
“While your stats are excellent in Ligue 1, you have yet to transpose this change to the Champions League (only 1 goal against Real Sociedad). How do you explain the fact that it’s more complicated?
It’s harder to find me on the pitch, and I have fewer balls to make a difference. I have to repeat the calls so that my partners can find me with the same ease as in the league. It’s up to me to keep up my efforts. If I keep going, things will take care of themselves.
The Champions League is a real eye-opener. Barcola is only 22 years old, he’s a latecomer to the first team and, of course, we have to be patient. In the European Cup, we can feel his margin for improvement and his need to move on. He’s still a very good PSG player, but if he wants to become an even more important player, he’ll have to dazzle the soccer world in the ultimate club competition.
He’s aware of the need to progress, and that’s how he’s going to become the important player everyone’s looking for. For now, let’s not forget that he’s young and still has time to prove himself.
Let him go through the stages in his own way. There’s no point in making judgements today, we know he’s young – a year ago, he wasn’t even a starter with the Paris club.
