Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich on Tuesday at the Allianz Arena as part of matchday 5 of the Champions League 2024-2025 league phase. After the match, Paris coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference. The Spaniard talked about what went wrong in the match, the lessons to be learned, the pressure ahead and the 3 matches to go to qualify.
Luis Enrique: “There were reasons for hope”.
How do you feel about this defeat? Why did you choose Safonov?
In the first half, we couldn’t overcome the pressure. They recovered the ball too easily. We were very inferior in the first half. In the second half, there were grounds for hope. The sending-off was a serious mistake on our part.
Luis Enrique “It’s very embarrassing when we lose, but it gives me the information I need.”
Will Tenas get his chance?
My aim is for all my players to be ready for the match we’re playing. We knew that Bayern would make this kind of pressing and I thought Safonov would be the best player to overcome that.
Everything I’ve seen in this match and in the defeats is very embarrassing, but it gives me the information I need about everyone to know where we’re going.
What do you think of the refereeing and are you angry tonight?
I have nothing to say about the refereeing, as I’ve always had since the start of my career. More than anger, I’d say it’s frustration.
Luis Enrique “On the attack for these next three games!”
3rd defeat, are you still confident of qualification?
I need to learn something from each game, information for the future that I’m planning here, so that I can become stronger. I’m learning a lot.
You mentioned 3 defeats, but I can see that there are still 3 games to go. We need to win them to qualify. Let’s attack for these next three games!
Do you have time to develop your ideas at PSG? Is it the right place to build a project?
Being PSG coach is a privilege. The pressure I put on myself is greater than that which anyone else can put on me. I’m not here to pass the time. My aim is to win. All the information I glean is very useful.
