Désiré Doué, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder who has just joined Paris Saint-Germain, was quick to declare his love for the club on the PSG Discord. He also revealed why he had opted for the number 14 shirt.
“My idol is Neymar”
“My favourite PSG legend? I don’t have just one. My idol is Neymar. A legend I’ve loved is Blaise Matuidi. That’s one of the reasons why I took the number 14 shirt.”
It’s a fine tribute, because let’s face it, Matuidi is a fantastic player, but one who is much less mentioned than some of his predecessors. The ex-international showed great things for Paris and it’s great to see that he left his mark on a generation. It takes everything to make a great team and Matuidi brought that to PSG, that extra soul, that extra generosity.
Moreover, for Doué to choose Matuidi’s number is a fine tribute, although not everyone can say the same. It also confirms that he knows his classics and has therefore chosen Paris as an ex-supporter of the club.
