Nicolas Samsoen, the mayor of Massy, is championing his municipality’s bid to host the future stadium for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). In comments made to Les Échos—reported by Le Parisien—the mayor expressed confidence in the project’s technical feasibility, even as the possibility of a local referendum remains on the table.
Nicolas Samsoen: “I have no doubt that the project is technically viable.”
“I have no doubt that the project is technically viable,” he stated, advocating for a “calm approach—one that avoids both impatient, youthful enthusiasm and irrational fear.”
Transport: A core element of the argument
According to Le Parisien, Nicolas Samsoen points to studies on how spectators would travel to and from the venue, asserting that the process would not disrupt the peace of local residents. This assurance serves as a key pillar of the bid presented by the mayor and should be understood as such.
The challenge is practical: how to accommodate fans while preserving the daily lives of those living nearby. For PSG, the quality of access is a crucial factor in evaluating a site’s appeal. For the municipality, the local impact will be a decisive factor in whether the project is accepted. Consequently, the technical confidence expressed by the mayor and the support of the local residents remain two separate issues.
A priority site to be named, followed by a potential public consultation
According to Le Parisien, PSG is expected to designate a priority site—from among Paris, Poissy, and Massy—by December 20, 2026, while keeping the other two options as alternatives. This deadline is intended to help clarify the direction of the project, though it does not constitute a final, binding decision.
Should the club select Massy, Nicolas Samsoen has suggested that a local referendum could be held in the autumn of 2027. Both the consultation itself and its timeline remain conditional. At this stage, the mayor is asserting his municipality’s capacity to host the project; local residents have not yet been asked to weigh in on the matter.
