For months, the future of the Parc des Princes has been at the heart of debate and tension. Paris Saint-Germain would like to extend it, but does not want to finance everything without being the owner. Paris City Council, for its part, is reluctant to pay and sell. A few months ago, Paris president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi decided to leave. We now wait to see where the club might play its matches in the future. An essential step was taken on Tuesday, when PSG announced the two sites it has chosen.
“Today marks a new phase. The Club is now ready to deepen its studies on the Massy and Poissy communes, in close collaboration with local partners. These two sites had already considered the possibility of reconfiguring their activities, and wanted to be able to host a regional project. They are both artificially developed, which is a key criterion for Paris Saint-Germain. They will be the subject of studies carried out in consultation with all stakeholders.
At last, something concrete in this very long dossier, which has been the subject of numerous rumours. We know more, the future is taking shape. Some may even already be considering possible travel times and organizing it for matches.
Be warned, though, it’s not going to happen just yet. Long studies are still needed, followed by construction work, which is bound to take time. PSG is aiming high and wants to do its best. The investment will be well made. Patience, then. But the project is moving forward. And in the end, PSG will leave the Parc des Princes, a great moment of history and emotion.
