This Friday, February 13th, as they travel to Rennes for Matchday 22 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season (kick-off at 7 pm, CET) Paris Saint-Germain has a small event to celebrate: Vitinha’s birthday. The midfielder turns 26 today.
Having arrived in 2022, Vitinha quickly showed great promise but has struggled to live up to it. In a somewhat strange team environment, where stars were constantly in the spotlight, the Portuguese player struggled to find his place and eventually found himself out of sorts. The arrival of coach Luis Enrique the following year, replacing Christophe Galtier, did him a world of good.
Both collectively and individually, the player himself has repeatedly emphasized how much the Spaniard helped him develop. Luis Enrique also moved him deeper on the pitch, positioning him as a defensive midfielder rather than a box-to-box midfielder at PSG. Many initially criticized this choice, but Vitinha has established himself as one of the world’s best in this playmaking role. He orchestrates the team’s attack and continues to be decisive with his passes and goals—often truly remarkable ones.
Now universally recognized as one of the best players in the world, the Portuguese international is also beloved by PSG fans for his character. He wasn’t chosen as a vice-captain by chance. We can only wish him continued success on this path for many years at PSG, and a happy birthday of course.
