Paris Saint-Germain returned to the French Cup on Tuesday evening, travelling to the Stade Marie-Marvingt to take on Le Mans FC. Unsurprisingly, the capital club came away with a 0-2 victory (video highlights Le Mans/PSG) over the National league minnows. Antoine Rabillard, striker for the Mucistes club, spoke to beIN SPORTS about an exceptional evening for these lower-league players:
Rabillard: “We fought with our weapons, we ran a lot…”
Did Le Mans come up with anything coherent?
We were expecting a very complicated match. It’s on a Champions League level. We fought with our weapons, we ran a lot, we defended a lot, we were very united. We could have done better with certain attacking transitions. If we’d managed to pull a goal back, we might have had a chance. Well done to Paris, it’s a logical victory. We hope to have shown a good image of the club. We’re proud to have been able to bring back such a fine match at least.
Was it a special match for you, having worn the Olympique de Marseille shirt?
We wanted to make the most of it, everyone will have their own career, but it’s not every day you get the chance to play against PSG for us who are in the national side. We can be proud of ourselves, and congratulations to Paris. Now we’ll turn our attention to the championship.
A defeat to build on?
Yes, it’s a very long championship, so we have to try and recover well. It’s a match in which we gained a lot of experience, especially for the young players, so we need to learn from our mistakes and look ahead to the future.
