Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-0 to Lens this Sunday at the Stade Bollaert in the 2026 Trophée des Champions. After the match, Lens defender Ruben Aguilar spoke to Ligue1+.
Aguilar: “We are taught tremendous values.”
Tell us about this feat?
It’s simple: when you sign for this club and you’re new, you learn. When I signed—that was four years ago now—we were taught tremendous values. You can hear it tonight with the crowd; I knew we were going to get a result. When we play like this, we’re very hard to beat, especially at home. I’m very proud of the lads. It’s not just the starting XI; it’s the whole club. It’s magnificent—being a player here is exceptional. I wish this experience on every footballer because we really are a family.
Aguilar: “We can achieve anything.”
At what point, playing 10 against 11, did you realize you could pull it off?
Naturally, the game plan changed a bit. We were up against the best team in the world. We knew we’d suffer, but if we know we’re all suffering together—covering those extra five meters to the left or right—we can achieve anything.
What does this mean for the start of the season?
It brings a huge confidence boost, and the same kind of thing could happen to kickstart our league campaign. I hope we’ll have another great season this year.
