Marquinhos (31, Paris Saint-Germain central defender) paid tribute to Luis Enrique and his staff on the club’s website, following the Champions League victory over Inter Milan. In his opinion, the Spanish coach’s philosophy and high standards were the driving force behind PSG’s collective success.
Marquinhos “Since the beginning of the season, he really trusted us”.
Luis Enrique
“Luis Enrique’s plan worked very well. From the start of the season, he really had faith in us. He showed us the way and the way was to all play together, all run together, defend well, attack well, find space, be intelligent to play with each other.
Everything the team has today is thanks to our coach, who brought this to us. It’s not by chance that he’s achieved it. He’s a coach who’s very demanding with himself. He’s always trying to improve the team, and to improve us as players.
Marquinhos: “He deserves everything he’s achieved in life”.
Coach and staff philosophy
Luis Enrique is very demanding with us, with the players, with the staff, with everyone who works at the club on a daily basis. He shows you the way and tells you where you need to improve. At the same time, he gives you the freedom to understand what’s going wrong during the match. He’s a magnificent coach, he deserves everything he’s achieved in his life.”
Since his arrival at Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique has been the target of much criticism, particularly regarding his tactical choices and his management of the squad. But far from allowing himself to be destabilized, the Spaniard has shown impressive calm, remaining true to his philosophy. He has instilled a collective sense of demand and responsibility in his players, while allowing them a certain amount of freedom on the pitch.
This combination of high standards and confidence has enabled a number of young and established talents to reach new heights this season. Thanks to his serenity and his method, Luis Enrique has transformed doubts into strength, turning PSG into a close-knit team in full progress. A number of young players have become world-class references this season (of course, we’ll have to wait and see), but the LDC team has a strong Parisian accent.
