Viktor Gyökeres, 25-year-old striker for Sporting Portugal (contract runs until 2028) and Sweden, has been making a name for himself for some time now with a string of goals and assists. Unsurprisingly, this has led to rumors of a move to Paris Saint-Germain. Except that the transfer is still shaping up to be difficult, especially with a €100 million release clause. On Tuesday, Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg confirmed that the Swede would be available next summer for less.
As is often the case, we remain extremely cautious when faced with what is merely a rumour. Such an agreement may exist between a club and a player, but it’s surprising here that the gap with the clause is so wide. Why not simply set it at this amount? Negotiations can take place, but it’s hard to imagine a club adding 30 million euros to its offer in order to please.
We’ll have to wait for concrete evidence before we can confidently consider a transfer to PSG. Or abandon the idea. It’s far too remote for the moment.
