To round off Matchday 9 of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain travelled to face rivals Olympique de Marseille (0-3). After the match, 24-year-old midfielder Vitinha spoke to PSG TV.
Vitinha “Our aim was to press very high, throughout the whole match”.
“It’s true that the red card changes the match a little, but the truth is that even before it we were doing very well. We started the game well, we scored and then with the red it was more obvious. Our aim was to press very hard throughout the match. Even more so in this type of match against a rival. It gave us a lot of control.”
Vitinha “We know that this type of match is special”.
“The support of the fans? It’s good for us to have this togetherness, this type of training with the fans too. We know that this type of match is special. It has a special flavour for them and for us too. So of course it’s a victory for them.”
While many experts were predicting an OM victory, PSG quickly showed their intentions in this match. Admittedly, the red card made things easier for the Parisians, but it came at a time when PSG were leading 1-0 and, above all, when OM had not been in the game for some twenty minutes.
Winning a Classico, especially away from home, is always a goal in any Parisian season. Tonight, they did just that, in style, and it could also breathe a new wind of confidence into the team.
Unfortunately, this success was achieved without the Parisian fans, who were undoubtedly delighted by their team’s outrageous domination.
