This Wednesday, L’Equipe and Le Parisien reported on the Paris Saint-Germain women’s mercato. While the men’s team is still awaiting concrete signings, both newspapers report that Paris has already completed the signing of Merveille Kanjinga, the 21-year-old striker from TP Mazembe, who have just won the Women’s Champions League. Two other players are expected to join.
L’Equipe –
PSG are set to strengthen their squad this winter, and are working on the arrival of three players. The most likely signing is a Congolese striker. This should be Merveille Kanjinga. The Parisian club has also targeted two Americans: an experienced wing-back capable of playing on both flanks, and a younger midfielder.
Le Parisien –
“According to our information, the first winter recruit will be Congolese Merveille Kanjinga. Her arrival will densify a sector currently made up of Marie-Antoinette Katoto, whose contract expires at the end of the season, and Romée Leuchter. The various parties are working out the final details of her transfer.
In parallel with these exchanges, PSG is also scouring the American market. It is targeting an experienced lateral who can play on both sides, whose name has not yet been revealed. Yuna McCormack, a 20-year-old American international midfielder, is currently on trial with the team.”
We’re always cautious until there’s something official, but the media are generally reliable when it comes to the women’s mercato. We can therefore assume that Kanjinga is indeed arriving in Paris to strengthen the team’s attack. That’s good news, given that PSG’s attack is all too often lacking in effectiveness this season.
We’re also waiting to see who the next recruits will be, with two American women expected to bolster the squad. This could do us good in what has been a mixed year so far. We also need to think about what’s next, with a project that’s getting stronger. Let’s hope for some good news soon.
