Mohamed Salah, the 32-year-old Egyptian striker whose contract with Liverpool expires next June, has been rumoured to be in the sights of Paris Saint-Germain. At the beginning of the week, there was even talk of discussions taking place, before denials were issued. The rumour mill has been revived, however, not least because the player once again spoke to Sky Sports about his future away from the Reds for the time being.
“This is my last year at Liverpool”, he said.
“This is my last year at Liverpool. Nobody has spoken to me since September. So far yes, these are the last six months. There’s no progress there. We’re a long way from making any progress at all. So we’ll just have to wait and see”, he declared.
In the game of mercato and fast-paced hype, many people remember only the first sentence, in response to the journalist’s question. Very few went as far as the rest, with a fairly clear player… while maintaining the suspense. For the moment, it’s the end of his adventure at Liverpool, as his contract is about to expire. And discussions are not really progressing.
The rumours are still circulating, with PSG said to be on the lookout to take advantage of the situation, except that Salah is not forgetting Liverpool, according to Foot Mercato.
“Mohamed Salah’s priority is still to extend his Liverpool contract
Negotiations still ongoing with the Reds and PSG, who deny any talks with the player
Saudi Arabia at a standstill”
With this interview, we could have expected new rumours, and these were not long in coming. Hardly enough to add anything new. Salah is currently on the move, as he has no agreement to extend his contract. Clearly, there isn’t even really a discussion.
It’s only logical that big clubs should be interested in the possibility of recruiting this immense player at the end of his contract, without paying transfer fees. But the player continues to put pressure on Liverpool, certainly in the hope that the dialogue will be launched. Otherwise, he’ll end up in full discussion with other clubs.
Perhaps PSG will have something to play for. Except that it could well end in an extension again. Or a move to another destination. It’s too early to be optimistic, but it’s not impossible to hope. Let’s wait and see.
