Having arrived from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023, 29-year-old defender Milan Skriniar has yet to find his place at Paris Saint-Germain. His contract expires in June 2028, but already a departure seems likely as the Slovak international is no longer playing. On Monday, journalist Gianluigi Longari confirmed the probable loan to Galatasaray, adding that discussions with former Paris striker Mauro Icardi (now at the Turkish club) helped convince him.
“Skriniar is closing in on Galatasaray. The defender’s direct contacts with former team-mates Icardi and Torreira have convinced him of the destination. A loan deal has been agreed for the Slovak until the end of the season. Galatasaray will cover the defender’s wages in full. As indicated by Aspor, negotiations are well advanced.”
Galatasaray have been emerging as the most likely destination for Skriniar for several days now, and we hope it’s not for nothing. But we remain cautious, as we know that the media can get carried away without being sure. So let’s wait for official confirmation.
But there is hope, and it’s possible that Icardi, in particular, has taken part. A nice coup if confirmed, given that the Slovakian is not necessarily easy to make leave with his very high salary and rather limited recent playing time. At least he’s been in good form with Slovakia over the winter break.
