Paris Saint-Germain and Metz faced off this Saturday at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Matchday 16 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. The match ended in a 3-2 victory for PSG. After the game, Metz coach Stéphane Le Mignan spoke at a press conference. He emphasized that his team came close to pulling off an upset, even though they made some significant errors.
Le Mignan: “We made them waver in the last fifteen minutes.”
“We played pretty much the game we wanted to play, although we did make one or two mistakes, especially that third goal which hurt us. The players’ attitude was very good. I think we deserve credit for coming back from two goals down each time. It’s not easy.”
We came back, we made them waver in the last fifteen minutes, it’s true that we felt they were on the verge of collapse. If we’d had a few more minutes, we think we could have equalized, which would have been a very good point considering the way the game unfolded, obviously, and also the performance itself.
Mignan “it doesn’t forgive”
“We let ourselves get drawn in, because for a few minutes, we were in a good position to try shots, especially from that corner where we followed up, we had a good setup. It all happens very quickly, but we forget that we need to be disciplined, because at this level, you don’t forgive yourself for leaving such a clear opening and opportunity, especially when you were on top.”
The result can be a little hard to swallow, especially since the 18th-placed team in the league didn’t seem far from pulling off a major upset. PSG dominated the start of each half, but struggled to finish strongly. This was especially true in the final fifteen minutes of the match, which were clearly dominated by Metz.
Metz should take credit for making PSG doubt themselves. The Parisians weren’t at their best, hampered by absences and fatigue. However, this still counts. Metz deserves credit for the difficulties PSG faced. They will need to rediscover this energy and confidence in their play in the upcoming matches.
Of course, there are also defensive weaknesses to address. These include those highlighted by the goals, but also the opportunities that PSG failed to capitalize on. The end was tight, but Paris could have secured the win earlier. We hope to see the Parisians improve their efficiency in the near future.
