Lee Kang-In, Paris Saint-Germain’s 24-year-old midfielder/attacker, suffered an injury during Thursday’s draw between South Korea and Oman in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Despite rather reassuring tests, his coach Hong Myung-bo announced to the press that he has been released and will return to his club for treatment.
“As far as Lee Kang-in is concerned, tests have shown that his injury is not as serious as we feared. I’ve just spoken to him and reaffirmed his commitment to the national team. However, he is just as important to his club as he is to the national team. We’ve decided to leave him out of the national team, along with two other injured players.” comments relayed by Yonhap News Agency.
At least we appreciate that the national team isn’t taking any risks with Lee, when we’ve already seen costly attempts (like Neymar). Health is a priority, so we have to be careful.
The other good news is that the injury is obviously not particularly serious, so we can hope that the Korean will be ready to play for PSG soon. Although he’ll no doubt need some time to heal, and then a bit of work to get back to full fitness. We’re waiting for a medical update from the Parisian club to give us a clearer idea of a return date.
