Paris Saint-Germain lost 0-1 to Botafogo (video summary PSG/Botafogo) this Friday at the Rose Bowl Stadium as part of Day 2 of the 2025 World Cup. After the match, Paris defender Lucas Hernandez (29) spoke in the mixed zone.
Hernandez “We’ll have to win to qualify.”
A lack of realism?
They were a great team. In the first half, they had the chance and managed to score. After that, in the second half, we knew it was going to be complicated because they closed us down. We tried everything, but unfortunately we couldn’t get back on level terms. We’ve got one game left, against Seattle. We’ll need to win to qualify.
What bothered you most? Their physical impact?
Yes, they put everything they had into the game. They defended well, played well and were very aggressive. Unfortunately, we couldn’t rise to the challenge, but we still have one match left to qualify.
Hernandez “Botafogo was aggressive.”
How do you explain this unexpected setback?
We didn’t have much space. Botafogo were aggressive, and in a game like that, when you’re behind, it’s hard to come back.
What did the coach have to say at half-time?
Above all, to try and attack more from deep. In the first half, we had a few chances, but we weren’t able to take advantage of the depth. The second half was better. But we lost this game and there’s still one to go.
