This Friday evening, Paris Saint-Germain lost 0-1 (video highlights PSG – Botafogo summary PSG/Botafogo) against Botafogo on Matchday 2 of the 2025 Club World Cup at the Rose Bowl Stadium. We take a look at some of the highlights and lowlights of the victory.
Tops –
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
The Georgian winger was the most perceptive of the Parisians, taking the initiative and trying to energize the attack despite the lack of collective efficiency.
Vitinha
The Portuguese midfielder once again shone in the midfield, organizing the game and trying to link up recovery and attack. His consistency and ability to shape the game remain invaluable to PSG. In the end, it wasn’t enough. PSG were not incisive enough.
Flops –
Not enough danger offensively
Paris didn’t have enough chances, and paid for it with one of their rare chances. A lack of efficiency on both sides of the pitch is costly in this competition. A lot was missing to make the match easier. Paris chased the score for part of the match and lacked their usual composure.
Defense misses
Pacho and Beraldo got tangled up, perhaps due to a lack of automatism, but clearly, we expected better. Our opponents were good, but Paris should have been able to react and defend better. Mayulu was also involved, but the goal conceded was not the only problem in a match that was well-controlled but lacking in magic.
Less inspired players
Hakimi, Doué and even the newcomers, PSG clearly lacked some “good stuff”. The physical freshness was lacking in this match, and mentally it was difficult to get back into the game. A match to forget, because we’ll have to do more to go far in the competition.
Ramos, barely a shadow.
Gonçalo Ramos, the 24-year-old striker, had a new opportunity to shine in the absence of Ousmane Dembélé (28). But he barely made an impact on the match. There were a few good passes and a header saved by the goalkeeper, of course. But it’s still not enough. It’s regrettable that PSG mainly used crosses after his exit.
