This Friday at 3am CET (broadcast on DAZN), Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Botafogo (2nd) at Rose Bowl Stadium in Round 2 of the Club World Cup. In a press conference following their 2-1 win over Seattle, Brazilian club coach Renato Paiva stressed that they would have to do better against a “very strong” PSG. But also that there will certainly be opportunities.
Paiva “mistakes we simply can’t make against Paris Saint-Germain”.
We really need to analyze the mistakes in our performance, the ones we simply can’t make against an opponent like Paris Saint-Germain, that’s obvious.
But we keep repeating that it’s on what we need to improve, not just offensively. I pay a lot of attention to defending with the ball. I like to defend, and I want my team to defend with possession. That didn’t happen today either. Not having the ball also led to these situations.
Paiva “they also have moments when they leave space.”
Obviously, PSG are a great team. As I said before, with a very strong collective and several ways of playing and attacking. They’re an aggressive team in defence, but they also have moments when they leave space for their opponents to attack and keep the ball.
