Paris Saint-Germain and Botafogo faced off this Friday at the Rose Bowl Stadium as part of Day 2 of the 2025 World Cup. The match ended in a 0-1 defeat for Paris (video summary PSG/Botafogo). After the match, the Brazilian team’s coach Renato Paiva spoke to DAZN and explained how his team managed to put in such a performance.

“I think we killed PSG with the same poison they had: an excellent team, a collective game, welded together, everyone defending, everyone attacking, and that’s the great secret of PSG.

Paiva can be satisfied and proud: beating PSG is a great performance and it’s bound to stand out in this Club World Cup, where different teams come face to face. His players were very combative and stuck to their game plan.
However, the Brazilian coach also had a hand in this success. We can’t say that Botafogo played like PSG, except in terms of solidarity. There was a real sense of determination, of wanting to achieve something special. PSG perhaps lacked a little determination, with too much of a feeling of being “at ease”.
