This Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain played host to Manchester City on Matchday 7 of the Champions League group stage (video summary PSG/Manchester City). On the sidelines of the match, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique spoke to PSG TV about his players’ performance.
Enrique “When we were losing 0-2, the fans kept singing”.
“I don’t know how you say it in French, but it was very very weird. I think in the first half it was a tough game with two teams trying to play their soccer. When we conceded two goals, it was incredibly unfair. But the atmosphere with the fans was incredible, they support the team all the time.
When we were losing 0-2, the fans kept singing. We want to dedicate this victory to them. We need to keep going, think about recovering and the next game, but this is a very special moment for us and we need to enjoy it too.”
A victory as beautiful as it was important for PSG, who beat Manchester City in a match that was destined to be another disappointment. In the end, in contrast to previous matches – notably the 1-2 defeat by Atlético Madrid – PSG turned the tables. Realism led to the first goal.
Confidence then grew, and the momentum finally overwhelmed the Citizens. Beyond this match, this victory rewards months of hard work too often unfairly punished by a lack of realism. PSG now have every chance of qualifying. All the more so after this success, which will enable them to build up their confidence and launch a much more satisfying cycle than the one that has just ended.
