This Saturday evening, Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 against Nantes on Matchday 13 of Ligue 1 2024-2025 at the Parc des Princes. Here are our top and bottom picks from the draw.
Tops –
A change for the better, with Nuno Mendes finally higher up the pitch (as against Bayern).
This was one of the satisfactions of the match. We finally see Nuno Mendes and Hakimi in similar roles, and this could very quickly hurt the opposition once everything has settled down.
Luis Enrique understands that without Mendes up top, it’s not possible in the long term. We also saw Nuno Mendes make the pass to Hakimi for the goal. Ramos deflected it, but this trio was a pleasure to watch.
Ramos the altruist
Although he failed to score himself, he was altruistic. It’s good to see him playing the whole match for the first time as a starter. It’s easy to see what he can contribute.
It’s unfortunate that the crossers never really got to the target, but Ramos has the ball and, above all, he’s a powerful presence in the box. It will take a few games for him to get back to 100%.
Gifted finally free?
His debut was full of promise. We finally saw him do what was expected of him. He hit the ground running and showed off his technical qualities.
He wasn’t rewarded, but it’s about time the team benefited from him being the desired recruit this summer, and that we finally see the benefits on the pitch. It would only be good for the quality of the squad, which lacks depth.
Flops –
A handball match
It’s all very well to have 1,000 or more balls, to shoot 24 times, but at some point, it would be a good idea to have periods of acceleration in the game. The ball goes left, right, right and left, and everyone is reluctant to take the risk and make a riskier, more direct pass. This makes for a stereotyped game, but it’s also a reflection of what Luis Enrique wants, minus the goals.
Pacho: the first doubts
He missed his game. Struggling in one-on-one situations, he went unrecognized. Add to this a footwork well below the team’s level (not just in this match) and it casts doubt on the player, with competition returning with Kimpembe and Hernandez.
We’re even wondering whether, in this kind of match, it wouldn’t be better to put on Beraldo, who has much better recovery qualities. Especially as Nantes showed very little offensively.
