This Friday, as part of the 31st day of Ligue 1 2024-2025, Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Nice (5th) at the Parc des Princes (kick-off 8.45pm, CET). Willy Delajod (32) has been chosen to referee the match. He has a wealth of experience in Ligue 1, with 123 matches to his name.
The man with the whistle will be assisted by Erwan Finjean and Philippe Jeanne. Ruddy Buquet will be the 4th referee. Video assistance will be provided by Eric Wattellier and Alexandra Collin.
Yellow cards –
With Mr Delajod on the whistle, we can expect yellow cards to be handed out fairly quickly during the match. Indeed, while the national average per match is 3.53 (standard deviation 0.39), Friday’s referee has given an average of 3.71 yellows per match in his entire Ligue 1 career (Transfermarkt figures). That’s a lot, but let’s hope it’s not all about dialogue and appeasement.
Direct red cards –
The man on the whistle on Tuesday was also a little harsh on direct red cards. Delajod has shown 0.19 exclusions per match in his career, while the national average per match is 0.17 (standard deviation 0.07). There’s no doubt about it, the players will have to be careful.
Second yellow cards –
Willy Delajod has a habit of sending players off after their first yellow card in a match, as he has given the same player a second warning an average of 0.11 times per match. This is well above the national average of 0.09 (standard deviation 0.03). With a lot of yellows and reds in the first instance, this is confirmation of the severity.
Penalties –
Finally, as far as penalties are concerned, the man with the whistle on Tuesday was higher than average, with 0.42 penalties whistled per match, compared with the Ligue 1 average of 0.34 (standard deviation 0.08).
