This Sunday at 8:45pm (UTC+1), Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Olympique de Marseille (2nd) at the Parc des Princes as part of the 26th day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. According to Le Parisien, the Marseille club will have no supporters in the stands, as they have been banned from travelling by a prefectural decree. It is even forbidden to approach the Parc in the run-up to the match.
While the Classic between PSG and OM will be played without Marseille supporters, the latter have also been banned by the Paris Prefecture of Police from approaching the Parc des Princes for a few hours before and after the match.
There’s no surprise here, it’s unfortunately become a habit for the Classico. It’s frustrating, because soccer is also about the fans. They are essential to the atmosphere, which would be more electric with both sides present.
However, it’s understandable that the authorities have chosen to do this after a number of incidents. Nevertheless, one day we’ll need a real dialogue and new attempts to change the situation. A ban would be a very sad “solution” in the long term.
