Paris Saint-Germain were back in Ligue 1 this Saturday evening, and it was Stade de Reims who were the guests for Matchday 19. Despite the Red and Blue’s unquestionable domination, Luis Enrique’s men were unable to win against a very low, compact block. The result was a 1-1 draw for Paris (video highlights PSG/Reims). Rémois coach Luka Elsner spoke to the press after the match about the bonus point and the tactics implemented.
Elsner: “When you’re behind against PSG, it can be mentally tough”.
You had chances, Paris scored, but you can be frustrated. How do you feel about the match?
I’m proud of the boys. I think they played a really stratospheric game. There were some great moments of soccer. Especially the goal we scored. We had character, we came back to score, and when you’re behind against PSG it can be mentally tough. We showed very good values and we were able to do what we wanted, we defended well.
You didn’t come here looking for a draw?
We knew we were capable of scoring and that PSG are capable of conceding. If we maintained our discipline and put in the effort, anything was possible. In our situation, that’s going to give us a lot of confidence.
Have you been working on the fast game?
That’s what we’re always working on, the notion of playing fast. How to cross the entire pitch by running at your opponent’s back. I liked the selflessness we showed.
