This Saturday, January 25, Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Reims (13th) at the Parc des Princes (kick-off 9.05pm, broadcast on DAZN) as part of Matchday 19 of Ligue 1 2024-2025. And as before every match, here’s a look at the Parisians’ opponents.
The Reims situation –
William Still made a remarkable arrival at Reims in October 2022 with a string of unbeaten matches that left a lasting impression. This confirmed that Reims had a real place in Ligue 1, close to European qualification.
But they were “only” 9th last season, just a few points away from Europe. Will Still, who came to the fore with this fine performance, left for Lens and was replaced by Luka Elsner after 2 seasons at Le Havre.
Elsner is now under pressure, with talk of a possible replacement beginning to surface as Reims sits 13th in the league, just 4 points ahead of 16th-placed Saint-Etienne and 8 ahead of 17th-placed Le Havre. At least they qualified for the last eight of the Coupe de France by eliminating Monaco on penalties, so there’s a bit of a silver lining.

Reims’ style of play.
A relatively solid team, Reims are also capable of using the ball, and we need to be wary of the percussion of their wingers. Watch out for a closed game, against a Reims side who are primarily focused on defending well in order to counter-attack. All this while perhaps taking advantage of the Parisians’ lack of concentration, between two Champions League matches.
