Although a complaint was lodged by the Ligue de Football Professionnelle (Professional Football League) following homophobic chanting by the Collectif Ultra Paris during the PSG/Strasbourg match, L’Equipe reports that the case has been dismissed by the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office.
“This complaint has just been dismissed by the Paris public prosecutor’s office”.
“Following homophobic chanting by the Collectif Ultras Paris (CUP) at PSG-Strasbourg (4-2) on October 19, the Ligue de Football Professionnel filed a complaint on October 24. This complaint has now been dismissed by the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office. According to our information, Romain Mabille, president of the CUP, was summoned by the police to explain his actions.
The Paris judicial court ruled that “after examining this procedure, criminal proceedings will not be instituted on the grounds that the investigation did not make it possible to identify the persons who committed the offence. Consequently, it is not possible to initiate criminal proceedings.”
You walk on eggshells in this kind of business. We know that everything that happens at the Parc des Princes is closely watched. Yet these same chants can be heard in every stadium, but the authorities seem to think that it’s more serious at the Parc des Princes than elsewhere.
We’d like the stadiums to be healthier, but we also know that these are complicated issues. It has to be said that the fans, as a group, are not the sharpest tool in the shed, and one wonders what could help the authorities to put a stop to all this. For the moment, there don’t seem to be any solutions.
