For months, the future of the Parc des Princes has been at the heart of debate and tension. Paris Saint-Germain would like to extend it, but does not want to finance everything without being the owner. Paris City Council, for its part, is reluctant to pay and sell. A few months ago, Parisian president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi decided to leave. We are now waiting to see where the club might play its matches in the future. Speaking to Le Figaro newspaper, Parisian general manager Victoriano Melero provided an update.
Melero “In the coming weeks, we’ll be concentrating on all the studies.”
“We need to increase the stadium’s capacity. This requires very heavy investment. So one of the conditions is to own the stadium. As the Parc is no longer for sale, we’re looking around Paris.
Is the future stadium a matter of weeks?
Yes. That means there are choices, a short-list. But if we really want to make a commitment, we can’t carry out four projects at once. We’ll have to decide on a specific project.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be concentrating on all the economic, technical, legal and administrative studies for a preferred site. If successful, this could be the site of the future stadium.
Is it really possible to set up 10, 20 or 30 kilometers from Paris.
Studies show that it is possible.”
We still don’t know where PSG will play after the Parc des Princes, but its departure seems quite certain. Here, we can also note that the Parisian club plans to accelerate this major project in the near future.
It’s time to take an essential step: choosing the venue. Next will come the various elements to be fine-tuned and the launch of the works. PSG won’t have a new stadium for several years. That’s why we can’t wait too long for this essential step in the club’s development.
Let’s just wait and see which dossier will win over PSG’s management.
