Arriving in the summer transfer window of July 2023 from Mallorca, 24-year-old South Korean midfielder/winger Lee Kang-In is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2028. While he has shown flashes of quality, he has struggled to fully establish himself, and the idea of a departure this window has been raised. Today, L’Équipe reports that the Korean is considering leaving, as options are opening up for him.
“Lee Kang-In wants more playing time and visibility in a year marked by the World Cup. The player is also taking his time to explore all his options because he senses that the transfer market is beginning to heat up around him. Several Premier League clubs have expressed interest, as has Napoli in Serie A. Could this push PSG to open the door? That does not appear to be the trend. In recent weeks, PSG have remained firm in their desire to keep him. It would take a very attractive offer to change the minds of the club’s hierarchy.”
Caution is needed, however: at this stage, it is only a rumor and far from certain. We have already seen the sports daily get things wrong regarding a PSG player’s intentions (as with Lucas Beraldo’s supposed transfer request, which was recently denied). In this case, Lee himself has said nothing to suggest he wants out — his potential departure has only been raised in the media.
That said, it is not unthinkable. The South Korean may well want more minutes on the pitch. For now, we will have to wait and see. Staying at PSG would not be a surprise either, as his versatility continues to please coach Luis Enrique.
