This Wednesday, on Matchday 1 of the 2025-2026 Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain faced Atalanta at the Parc des Princes. After a match in which the Red and Blue largely dominated, they won 4-0 (see video recap). Here are our ratings for the Parisians.
Goalkeeper –
Lucas Chevalier (6) – A first half played like a swashbuckler, no saves to note. Not much more work in the second half. Very clean.
Defenders –
Achraf Hakimi (7) – He was a little behind the other players in recent matches, but the Champions League arrived, so he put his overalls back on. A good first half. He remained focused in the second.
Marquinhos (8) – Aggressive, a goal-scorer, high up the pitch, the captain is hungry. A boss’s first half. A good performance from him.
Willian Pacho (7) – Impeccable at the back in the first half. He shows that his first season wasn’t just a one-off; he’s definitely raised his game at PSG.
Nuno Mendes (8) – It’s worth noting, however, that he doesn’t constantly try to break through. Fortunately for the opponent, as he caused so much pain when he took the initiative. He scored a superb goal, which he earned single-handedly with his extraordinary skill. Substituted in the 75th minute by Ilyia Zabarnyi.
Midfielders –
Joao Neves (6) – Present in the duel, good first half. He was injured early in the second half. Substituted by Gonçalo Ramos in the 57th minute.
Vitinha (7) – He’s a good balancer, holds the ball, and delivers well. The team’s maestro.
Fabian Ruiz (7) – He is certainly the most unreadable player in the Parisian XI. Sometimes replacing Mendes before making a deep run, he knows how to position himself perfectly. He provided the assist on the first goal. Replaced by Warren Zaïre-Emery in the 54th minute.
Forwards –
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (8) – What a first half. He seemed to have been struggling in recent weeks, like Hakimi, but he’s back at just the right time, in the Champions League. He hammered his opponents, everything went his way in the first half, and he was rewarded with a goal he had to score all by himself. Replaced by Ibrahim Mbaye in the 75th minute.
Senny Mayulu (4) – It’s a position that doesn’t really show him off; he’s not quite ready, and physically, he’s still a bit weak after his injury. Replaced by Lee Kang-in in the 54th minute.
Bradley Barcola (5) – He wasn’t bad, but his penalty spoiled his first half. He has the right to miss, but not the way he took it. He was very discreet in the second half.
Coach –
Luis Enrique (7) – From the top of his stand, he could see that his team was doing well in the first half. He also saw that his players had missed some small things that needed to be corrected. His PSG won again. He really created a beautiful, well-oiled machine.
