The 2025 summer transfer window is now open and will remain so until September 1 at 8 p.m. in France, so rumors surrounding Paris Saint-Germain are mounting. This time, PSG Inside Actus is providing an update on the Parisian club’s plans. Notably, there is a strong focus on recruiting a striker and the priority positions this summer.
“Paris Saint-Germain, despite recently being crowned European champions, is still hesitant to sign a true number 9 during the upcoming transfer window. According to several sources, the club believes that the costs of strikers have skyrocketed, and that paying excessive amounts no longer makes sense. Since winning the Champions League, PSG has been hit with a “European champion tax.”
Luis Enrique, true to his word, has clearly stated on several occasions that if the value for money is not convincing, there will be no signing.
What has changed this year is the hierarchy of sporting priorities. Internally, it is felt that the number 9 position is not the most urgent. Other areas of the field need to be strengthened, notably:
Defensive midfield, where PSG is looking for a powerful and enduring player to stabilize the team.
Two central defenders capable of cleanly restarting play, preferably one right-footed and one left-footed.
A young winger who can play on the right and left.
A full-back.”
Please note that this is still a rumor and not an official announcement. Above all, as we regularly point out, the transfer market can change quickly depending on opportunities or statements from other clubs. However, this media outlet is relatively reliable, and the whole thing makes sense.
The recruitment of a new number 9 seems far from a priority, between Gonçalo Ramos (24), who is not particularly looking to leave, and Ousmane Dembélé (28), whose position would have to be changed if a top striker were to become a starter.
Defensive targets are clearly expected, as the squad clearly needs to be strengthened in that area. A versatile full-back and a central defender in particular, who fit coach Luis Enrique’s style of play.
The arrival of a midfielder with a slightly different profile and a versatile striker would also make sense. However, beware, nothing is certain yet. Especially with prices rising quickly, particularly at PSG. Everyone knows that PSG has significant resources, and clubs can take advantage of that.
But we have already seen in recent months, notably with João Neves and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, that PSG knows how to be patient if the price seems excessive. And this has been successful in the end. So patience is needed while negotiations take place.
