Matchday 22 of Ligue 1 saw Stade Rennais host Paris Saint-Germain. And despite the Parisians dominating possession, it was the Bretons who pulled off the upset, defeating the capital club 3-1. Esteban Lepaul, the 25-year-old SRFC striker who scored tonight, spoke to Ligue1+ about his goal and the instructions that led to his team’s victory:
Lepaul: “You have to go after them and show character.”
Tell us about your goal.
We had been working on set pieces, focusing on specific areas to target. The corner was well taken, and my movement created an opening for me to head home a great goal.
What were the attacking instructions?
We were instructed not to let them do whatever they wanted. We know that if they play a high line, it’s difficult and they’re more dangerous. We had to go after them and show character, that’s what we worked on. We had nothing to lose. We wanted to get back on track and start something good, and that’s what we did perfectly tonight, and it’s magnificent.
