On Friday evening, Paris Saint-Germain lost 3-1 against Rennes in Matchday 22 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season at Roazhon Park. Here are the highlights and lowlights of this defeat.
Highlights –
❤️ An exciting match.
While French football officials have faced further criticism this week, with some “fans” and “observers” often preferring to highlight other leagues, we were treated to a very interesting Ligue 1 match tonight. There was spectacle, skillful play, a fast pace, and plenty of twists and turns. Admittedly, the result wasn’t what we hoped for. But that doesn’t detract from the fact that the match was engaging.
Dro Fernander and Lee Kang-In’s performances
It’s a small detail, but Lee Kang-In (24-year-old winger/midfielder) and Dro Fernandez (18-year-old midfielder) showed promise after coming on as substitutes. This bodes well for the future.
Flops –
😡A very sloppy PSG.
Rennes certainly deserves credit in this very difficult match for PSG, but it’s worth noting that the Parisians also displayed an uncharacteristic amount of wastefulness in their play. This applied to their ball control, passing, and shooting. A few defensive interventions. Logically, they struggled. Of course, Rennes did manage to save a few situations. But PSG also needs to be more precise.
And a shaky defense.
A little less control of the game also gives the opponent more opportunities. Especially since they still have hope when PSG’s finishing isn’t there. The defense found itself more exposed and suffered. On top of that, Willian Pacho wasn’t at his best, and Ilya Zabarnyi struggled a lot.
Désiré Doué was out of sorts.
The 20-year-old midfielder/forward made mistakes in both his actions and decision-making, and Ousmane Dembélé’s post-match comments to Ligue 1+ were possibly aimed at him. He is at least one of those players who could benefit from a style of play more focused on PSG and less on self-interest.
