Ever since Paris Saint-Germain won the 2024-2025 Champions League (5-0 in the final against Inter Milan), there’s been a great deal of suspense and debate: should they add a star to the jersey like Olympique de Marseille? Some are opposed, arguing that in other European countries, this addition generally means 10 championships won. PSG has decided, reports journalist Bruno Salomon (Ici Paris). And it will be somewhere in between.
We know that this is a sensitive subject for some, and that arguments are thrown in all directions. History flouted, a mistake, the obvious, the mark of the greats… Difficult to choose.
PSG has undoubtedly made a somewhat economical choice. The collector’s jersey with a star on sale after the victory was a great success. The edition of “Champions League” shirts with a star will undoubtedly find many takers. Others will be happy with the “classic” version.
It’s not necessarily perfect, but it makes sense. Not least in terms of sales, an important point for all clubs. Still, it’s a regrettable “half” decision, between star and non-star.
It’s worth pointing out, however, that there will be no fixed rule in Europe for stars. Some clubs have chosen to award stars for championships, others for victories in European competitions. In the end, each club does as it wishes. If possible, in tune with its supporters. It’s easier when they’re not divided on the theme.
