Fabian Ruiz is a 28-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder who has established himself as a key figure in the midfield. Unfortunately, unlike his Euro 2024 campaign with Spain, most of his performances for Paris have been unconvincing. Journalist Daniel Riolo spoke to RMC Sport about the Spaniard’s difficulties in integrating into the Parisian dressing room.
Riolo “He’s not doing well at PSG, maybe he needs to go.”
“We were obviously dazzled by his Euro, but right now, the before and after, that’s enough. There’s nothing, it’s nothingness. Either like Ancelotti had done, you put him in front of the defense to see what the last chance was. He’s not there, he’s a complete failure. It must also be said that he’s better with Spain than PSG because he’s more at ease. He’s more at ease in the dressing room with Spain.
Fabian Ruiz doesn’t fit in well in the Paris dressing room because the guys aren’t like him, don’t talk like him, don’t have the same culture as him. He doesn’t fit into the dressing room, he’s not very comfortable. He talks to 2-3 people, but the rest is not his gang. He’s not doing well at PSG, maybe he needs to go.”
It’s hard to judge a player’s well-being in the dressing room. We’re wary, especially as Daniel Riolo is known (among other things) for his catchphrases and exaggerations. Perhaps he went a little too far, even if he may have received a few echoes.
But it has to be said that Fabian Ruiz’s contribution on the pitch is not what it should be. Technically, his contribution remains weak and unconvincing. But once again, this is one of the points that PSG need to improve if they are to have a fully-fledged squad.
It’s also clear that Fabian Ruiz is not the player for Luis Enrique’s system. But on the other hand, he can bring physicality and experience, which remain two important points. Now we’re going to have to make some choices, because the capital club can’t afford to have glaring gaps in certain positions and not remedy them.
