Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is by no means an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with Paris Saint-Germain’s match this Sunday against Atlético de Madrid at the Rose Bowl Stadium as part of Day 1 of the group phase of the 2025 Club World Cup (kick-off 9pm CET, broadcast on DAZN).
5 – Revenge for a frustrating match.
Last November 6, when the Champions League title was still a long way off, PSG lost to Atlético Madrid 1-2 in the league phase. A terrible match, at the end of which many lined up criticisms, forgetting about the game in order to “concentrate” on the result. Which was painful, of course.
But 22 shots to 4, 72% possession and 6 corners to 0 could also score. It could be a little revenge, as much for the scoreline as for the jabs sent out by the media. Even if winning the Champions League is already a fine response.
4 – The group’s mentality.
As we’ve just mentioned, PSG have won the Champions League and every title so far this season. It’s been a long season, and it’s beginning to take its toll on heads and minds. But we’re still waiting to see if Paris can maintain the same level of determination. It’s not easy after such a triumph. But this Parisian group doesn’t seem to have had enough. Let’s hope this is confirmed (by looking first and foremost at the content).
3 – Opportunities for some.
With Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembélé (forwards aged 22 and 28) unlikely to play, as well as international matches at the end of a busy season, there may be a bit of management. At least when making changes.
Senny Mayulu (19-year-old midfielder), Noham Kamara (18-year-old defender) and Ibrahim Mbaye (17-year-old striker) are youngsters who could benefit. Portuguese international Gonçalo Ramos (23-year-old striker), who is struggling to make a name for himself, also comes to mind. It’s up to him to seize the opportunity.
2- A new competition.
Like it or not, the Club World Cup is here to stay, and this will be the first edition. The only way to form an opinion is to discover and experience the competition. And then, if PSG can win the first edition and thus all the possible trophies over the season, that will go down in history. That’s not too bad.
1 – Towards another title?
PSG are going to play in this competition. Whether we’re particularly excited or not, it’s going to happen and Paris is going to play. So we hope to see the Parisians go all the way. It would be historic and not to be underestimated. A little excitement is possible.
